Clock scales, stainless steel cables, cable tensioners, stainless steel and steel

64kg de Triângulo (64kg of Triangle, 2014), by Felippe Moraes, investigates the relationship between a geometric concept and its physical manifestation in the material world. The installation is formed by tensioned steel cables that outline a triangle in space. At each of its vertices sits a mechanical scale that measures the force exerted by the cables, registering the tension that sustains the form.
By using measuring instruments to give body to a geometric figure, the work transforms the triangle into a physical system of measurable forces. The geometric form ceases to exist only as mathematical abstraction and comes to be experienced as a field of real tension, sustained by the balance between the elements of the structure.
Within this system, each vertex of the figure functions as a point of force distribution. The scales permanently register the pressure exerted by the cables, revealing that the stability of the form depends on a delicate balance between tension and resistance. The triangle thus becomes a visible structural organism.
