Gold, brass, copper and earth (ed. 3 + AP)
Variable dimensions
A Gênese (The Genesis, 2009–2011), by Felippe Moraes, presents a gold-plated plumb bob suspended a few centimeters above a mound of earth. An ancestral tool used to determine verticality in construction, the plumb bob appears here displaced from its technical function and placed in a state of suspension and latency.
Traditionally associated with the fields of architecture and engineering, the plumb bob is a precision instrument meant to establish alignment between above and below, between sky and ground. In the work, however, the object loses its practical function and comes to operate as a symbolic element. Suspended above the earth, it ceases to measure the world and instead becomes part of a reflection on fundamental forces that structure matter.
Between the weight of the metal and the raw matter of the ground, a silent field of tension is established. The work organizes itself within this minimal interval, where opposing forces remain in unstable balance: gravity and suspension, conduction and isolation, positive and negative.
