About the Work
Starting May 16, 2026, visual artist Felippe Moraes presents Minha Missão, an LED panel work installed on the Edifício Gloriamar, on the Aterro do Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro. Visible 24 hours a day, the intervention occupies one of the most iconic points in the city’s landscape, facing Guanabara Bay, establishing a dialogue between contemporary art, urban space, and everyday experience.
The animation displays, in sequence, the phrases ANUNCIAR O DIA (Announce the Day) and AMENIZAR A NOITE (Ease the Night). The words appear in luminous alternation, turning the panel into a public poem. The work weaves together light, language, and landscape, inviting the public to reflect on the role of art in the city and on language’s capacity to illuminate, welcome, and transform.

Part of the Museu a Céu Aberto project, by ArtRio in partnership with Blood OOH, Minha Missão reaffirms a commitment to taking art beyond traditional exhibition spaces. Set within the urban flow of the Aterro do Flamengo, the work can be seen both by drivers passing through the city and by pedestrians moving through the area.
The intervention engages directly with the landscape of Rio de Janeiro. By day, the panel blends into the natural light of the waterfront. By night, it becomes a poetic beacon, casting words over the darkness. In this way, the work transforms an advertising surface into a space for contemplation, shifting its usual function and proposing new forms of attention and experience.
The Origin of the Phrase
The work’s title and text come from the samba Minha Missão (1981), by João Nogueira and Paulo César Pinheiro. In the song, the composers affirm ideas about announcing the day and easing the night. By bringing this verse into public space, Felippe Moraes builds a bridge between the tradition of Brazilian popular music and contemporary art.
This reference sits within the artist’s ongoing investigation into popular songbook as raw material for visual works. Here, the sung word becomes an illuminated word, preserving its poetic force while extending its symbolic reach into the urban environment.
The Work’s Trajectory
Minha Missão is part of the Samba Exaltação series, in which Felippe Moraes turns samba verses into sculptures, installations, and urban interventions. In 2021, the circular neon piece ANUNCIAR O DIA/AMENIZAR A NOITE (2021) entered the permanent collection of the Museu de Arte do Rio.
The presentation at the Aterro do Flamengo marks the artist’s first large-scale urban light work in his hometown. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Moraes establishes here an affective dialogue with the city, its cultural memory, and his own artistic trajectory.
Public Art and Urban Trajectory
In 2025, the work Anunciar o Dia/Amenizar a Noite (2021) was presented at the Festival Sesc de Inverno, at Parque Municipal de Itaipava, extending its trajectory into public contexts and reaffirming its calling toward the encounter of art, language, and shared space.
Among these projects is the Samba Exaltação series, begun in 2021, in which verses from Brazilian popular song are transposed onto different surfaces and contexts. One of its most emblematic outcomes was the intervention on the Edifício Mirante do Vale, in São Paulo, where luminous words occupied the façade of Brazil’s tallest building, projecting samba across the monumental scale of urban architecture.
Here, the investigation finds a new chapter. Facing Guanabara Bay, the work weaves together text, movement, and light to create a contemplative experience within the flow of the city.
