Samba Exaltação, 2025
Festival SESC de Inverno
Parque Municipal de Itaipava, Petrópolis – Brazil

On July 25 and 26, 2025, Felippe Moraes presented the Samba Exaltação series at the Festival SESC de Inverno in Itaipava, occupying the park’s space with four large neon works installed among the audience. The works emerge within the flow of the shows and performances, turning the environment into an expanded field of listening and seeing.
With phrases drawn from composers such as Martinho da Vila, João Nogueira, Nelson Sargento, and Caetano Veloso, the neons operate as devices of collective memory. The words light up within the space like affective traces, inviting the audience to mentally complete the songs and activate shared narratives of Brazilian culture.
Set within a trajectory begun in 2021, the series weaves together light, language, and territory, turning samba into visual matter. Within the context of the Rio de Janeiro highlands, the works take on monumental scale and assert themselves as luminous presences moving through the festival, between celebration and resistance.
