Held in Porto Alegre in 2022, the 13th Mercosul Biennial brought together around 100 artists from more than 20 countries, occupying various cultural spaces across the city, including the Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul, the Memorial do Rio Grande do Sul, the Farol Santander Porto Alegre, the Cais do Porto, the Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, the Fundação Iberê Camargo, the Instituto Ling, the Casa da Ospa, and the Instituto Caldeira.

Under the general curation of Marcello Dantas, with associate curation by Carollina Lauriano, Laura Cattani, Munir Klamt, and Tarsila Riso, and pedagogical curation by Germana Konrath, the biennial was organized around the conceptual axis “Trauma, Dream, and Flight.” The proposal starts from an understanding of trauma — both individual and collective — as a driving force behind artistic creation, particularly in light of shared experiences such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, Felippe Moraes presented Movimento Pendular (2014), composed of a glass pendulum suspended by a cable, set in continuous motion above the exhibition space. As it swings, the object releases sand, which settles on the floor and gradually traces circular patterns and geometric variations resulting from its own movement. The work builds itself over time, through repetition and the action of gravity, transforming movement into record and establishing a direct relationship between gesture, matter, and duration.
